Forest/Trees was commissioned as part of the Renewable Music project organised by the Berg Orchestra (Prague), UMZE Ensemble (Budapest), Hashtag Ensemble (Warsaw), and Waves Slovakia (Bratislava). The piece was first premiered in Prague by the Berg Orchestra, after which it also received its Polish, Hungarian, and Slovak premieres.
The piece is for chamber ensemble and fixed media electronics. The electronics part consists primarily of field recordings (mostly made at Petřín Hill, Prague) and electromagnetic sounds. The temporal structure copies the duration of one year, with every small bell sound representing one week.
